Jagath Weerasinghe was born in 1954 in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, where, after his studies in Italy and US, he emerged as a pivotal artist and powerful voice in the cultural environment of his country since 1990s. The brushstrokes in his paintings are expressive, intense and show the artist’s feelings towards the horrors of political violence and genocide in his country.
